We are studying really hard, and we take our studies very seriously. Even if we have future goals, that doesn’t mean we’re frauds. We spent millions of krónur, and it was very hard to get here. There was IELTS, and now there is an admission exam and interview, all of that you have to pass. Rent is 20× higher than in my country. Groceries are very expensive. Eating a proper meal is a privilege while you are still just studying, maybe even with a part-time job. The weather is extremely harsh, but we still manage to go to university and attend our classes. It’s not like we are frauds. We are law… Lesa alla

It’s not like we are frauds. We are law-abiding residents, and we study hard because we literally can’t afford to lose our place here. Our fellow immigrants pay high amounts of taxes too, and we work hard, we may even feel that we have to work harder than others just so we belong. This bill is very unfair. The real problems aren’t us; it’s the poor administration. We came here to study. Studying literally is our activity and purpose, and our current legal status is tied to being a student. You are putting the burden on us students when they should be focusing on the real administrative challenges. The people who disobey the rules or misuse the system should face the consequences, instead of putting the burden on all of us students who are really studying very hard to learn the language. May I also add, it is not hard to become passionate about something you are working hard to understand and learn. SO YES, WE ARE HERE TO STUDY THE LANGUAGE.

So you people don't actually care about preserving Icelandic, huh? Forcing a change so that only BA holders can access the university system is going to trash the Íslenska sem annað mál programs. It infuriates me that Icelandic politicians are playing with this gutter racism when the data is in that tightening restrictions on international students ruins local economies. Norway lost 80% of their international students recently and they're scrambling to roll back tuition fees. You people are going to kill your language, your economy, your academic standing, and your soft power because you're… Lesa alla

You people are going to kill your language, your economy, your academic standing, and your soft power because you're mad there are some Filipinos around. No one gets together millions of krónur to NOT study. It is obvious that no one involved in drafting this legislation has spoken to an international student, ever. Pathetic, self-harming nationalism.

The proposed amendments raise serious concerns about fairness for current students. The bill refers multiple times to adopting systems from countries like Norway and Denmark, yet in Norway, when similar changes were made, existing students were not affected. It seems unreasonable that students who have relocated, studied, and contributed to the Icelandic economy would now face stricter requirements mid-course. Framing all students as potential abusers of the visa system is also concerning. While addressing misuse is important, the vast majority of students pursue their studies in good faith a… Lesa alla

Framing all students as potential abusers of the visa system is also concerning. While addressing misuse is important, the vast majority of students pursue their studies in good faith and contribute academically, socially, and economically. Penalizing all students because of the actions of a few is unjust and risks undermining trust in Iceland’s international education system.

This is totally shame for the students who are really working hard to achieve their degree. And most importantly changing the job searching from 3 years to 1 year is really ridiculous. Specially foreigner like us need to swim in the job market to get a job, then this kind of shameful time limit will kill our hopes for the future. This will lead to more depression and anxiety for the running students.
